The University of the Third Age has its origins in Toulouse, France in the early 70s. UK U3A was formed 25 years ago and now has 691 independent U3As and over 206,525 members. The organisation is for older people who have retired from full time employment. It enables members to share educational, creative and leisure activities. The organisation is low cost and has no entry requirement and gives no qualifications, other than members' personal satisfaction at taking on new activities and meeting new friends.
